Usage

Working a tRadar unit: the controls, the /tradar dialog, lock and auto-lock, the self-test, the tuning fork, what the unit gets wrong, and the plate reader.

F5 is the whole unit, and it is the only key. Press it to deploy the radar, again for the remote, a third time to put the remote away. The second press is what gives the page a mouse, so the faceplate's keys are clickable — that used to be a separate keybind and is not one any more.

ControlWhat it does
F5 (rebindable)Deploy → remote → close the remote. Never stows
ESCCloses the remote, leaving the radar up
STOW on the remoteStows the unit
PWR on the faceplatePowers it. The scan threads run only while it is powered
/tradarThe dialog — tab by tab
/tradaredit3D prop editor. Needs tradar.admin (or tlib.admin) and a vehicle
/tradarfork [rear]Strikes a tuning fork at the front or rear antenna

Mode, lanes, antennas, speed unit, auto-lock, beam range and volume survive a reconnect. Readings, locks and transmit hold do not.

The /tradar dialog

Nine entries. BOLO appears only with the plate reader enabled; Marketplace, Sounds and 3D Prop Editor only for an admin. Feedback is last, for everyone.

TabWhat is on it
QuickDeploy/Stow, mode, lane per antenna, patrol blank, beam range, audio, Doppler Audio, auto-lock — the same state the faceplate keys drive
SettingsSpeed unit, a skin picker and a Reposition button per device
UnitBeam range, audio, Doppler Audio, auto-lock and its limit, Allow Stream Deck Link
BOLOThe watch list. Shared by every officer, kept across restarts
LogReadings saved with J. The last 25, newest first, kept across a restart
ManualThe operator's manual, by chapter
MarketplaceAdmin only. Install layouts without leaving the dialog
SoundsAdmin only. One dropdown per sound, mapped to an installed .wav. Server-wide

Doppler audio

The continuous tone that rises and falls with the target speed ships off. Tick Doppler Audio in /tradar — beside the audio level on both Quick and Unit — and it is remembered for your next connect. The pitch is the beat note, so if the tone and the number disagree, the number is the one that is wrong.

  • It is not the audio level. That slider still governs the lock and plate tones with the doppler off. Turning the level to zero silences everything; unticking this silences one thing.
  • It is not what other people hear. The world-audible copy of the unit — what a passenger or someone on the pavement hears from the car — is Config.audioRange, and it is unaffected.

Config.dopplerAudio = true starts new players with it on. A player who has set the tickbox either way keeps their own choice.

Modes, lanes and locks

ControlBehaviour
MODEMoving shows patrol speed and corrects every reading for it. Stationary blanks it, and above Config.stationaryMaxSpeed (3.0) stops reading and shows HOLD for XMIT
Lane (per antenna)Steps opposite → both → off → same. Both legends lit is both-lane, neither is off. A parked antenna drops its lock
LOCKEach window locks on its own: lock the target window and the fast window keeps hunting
AUTOWith a limit set in /tradar, an antenna with no lock takes one when a steady reading reaches that limit, fastest window first. 0 disarms it

The self-test

Power-up runs a check, TEST runs one on demand, and a powered head re-checks itself every Config.selfTestIntervalMs (15 minutes).

  • The first part of a check lights every bar of every digit: 888, which is how you find a dead segment.
  • TEST then gives the verdict by colour: green passed, red failed.
  • A failure latches — no speeds, and off the air — until a later check passes.
  • Checks never fail unless your server raised Config.selfTestFailChance above 0.0.

The verdict is the TEST legend's colour:

The tuning fork

/tradarfork strike it at the front antenna
/tradarfork rear ... or the rear

A head reading 63 off a 65 fork is out of calibration. No bundled faceplate carries a fork key; the actions are fork:front and fork:rear. The unit refuses a fork struck while it is off, faulted, mid-self-test or in transmit hold.

Config.forkMph changes the legend stamped on the fork, never the reading.

Rear traffic alert

Same-lane traffic overtaking you by more than Config.rearAlertMargin lights REAR and sounds once, whatever lane the rear antenna is filtering for. Only the KBX-2200 has the legend; on the single-antenna heads the alert still sounds, and the Stream Deck still reports it.

What the unit gets wrong

Two errors real officers are trained on are modelled, and one ships on. Troubleshooting has the symptom-first version.

What happensSetting
Patrol-speed shadowing — targets read high, patrol window sagging below your speedometerConfig.patrolShadowPull, on at 0.2
Calibration tolerance — a head reads consistently a little off, a fixed offset drawn at each power-upConfig.calibrationHighMph / LowMph, both 0
A curve reads nothing. A hard turn refuses everything, so you cannot clock from oneConfig.accuracyMph, Config.sampleMs
A crossing vehicle reads low; a lorry is clocked past the quoted range, a motorcycle lost inside itConfig.rangeFactorMax

Use PATROL BLANK to hide a patrol reading you do not trust.

Interference

The RFI sensor ships on. Target and fast windows blank and the rear alert stops; the patrol window keeps reading and a locked window keeps its number. RFI lights amber on the KBX-2200 and SLX-1100 — the CHX-800 has no such legend.

The default source is another tRadar on your band within Config.rfiRange. Move or wait: one detection holds the inhibit for Config.rfiHoldMs after the source stops. Sirens ship off; switch them on and expect blank windows for most of a pursuit. A fault needs a re-test instead.

Beam range and transmit hold

Beam Range runs from Config.minPlayerRange to Config.maxRange. It turns down the receiver, so winding it in does not make you quieter to a detector — tRadar publishes Config.maxRange, not your slider. See GetDetectorSignature.

XMIT drops the transmitter while the unit stays awake and shows patrol speed. Sit in hold, key up once a car is in sight, key off.

The plate reader

Off by default. Turned on, it is a second window with its own position and skin, showing plates and locking them; a locked window lights LOCK until you drop it. It keeps no list of its own: your CAD or BOLO resource answers each read, and anything that comes back is shown as a flag.

The remote

RCX-150 is all keys and no glass, drawn only in keypad mode — F5's second press. Place it with Reposition Remote in /tradar, which turns keypad mode on first.
