Comparison

tRadar vs Codesign Radar

Two different takes on a police radar. Codesign Radar is an ALPR-first tool: it reads passing plates, auto-locks speeders above a set limit, and manages a shared BOLO database. tRadar is a dash-mounted patrol radar that models how a real unit reads. Every row is sourced from each product's public pages.

Feature comparison

Price

tRadar: $14.99 one-time

Codesign Radar: €29.99

Status

tRadar: Beta

Codesign Radar: Stable releases (latest v1.0.7)

Source code

tRadar: FiveM Asset Escrow. config.lua, the access hook and every layout stay open.

Codesign Radar: FiveM Asset Escrow, with config files open

Frameworks

tRadar: None needed. Six frameworks and nine inventories resolve only when access is gated by job or item.

Codesign Radar: ESX, QBCore, vRP, or standalone

What it is

tRadar: A patrol radar instrument mounted in the vehicle

Codesign Radar: An ALPR radar that reads passing vehicles and plates, with a BOLO database

Speed readings

tRadar: Front and rear antennas, each with a target window and a fast window

Codesign Radar: Detects passing vehicles' speeds; four cameras, each with its own lock speed

Locking

tRadar: Each window locks independently. Optional auto-lock: with a limit set in /tradar, an antenna with no lock takes one when a reading reaches that limit, fastest window first.

Codesign Radar: Auto-locks and pings when a vehicle passes above the set speed limit; manual lock key

Modes and lanes

tRadar: Moving and stationary modes. Lane filter cycles opposite, both, off and same.

Codesign Radar: Not listed

Bands and audio

tRadar: X, K and Ka bands with doppler audio derived from the band

Codesign Radar: Not listed

Error modeling

tRadar: Patrol-speed shadowing ships on. Calibration tolerance is modeled and ships off. Both can be turned off.

Codesign Radar: Not listed

Self-test and calibration

tRadar: Power-on self-test and a tuning fork command

Codesign Radar: Not listed

Emergency vehicles

tRadar: Read like any other vehicle. CAD plate lookups skip them by default, which the CAD npcFilter setting turns off.

Codesign Radar: Ignores emergency vehicles by design

Where the display lives

tRadar: A prop on the vehicle's dash. Nearby players can read it and hear it.

Codesign Radar: An on-screen interface players can move, resize and theme

Plates

tRadar: Optional, off by default. Front and rear windows that show and lock plates; it never decides what a plate means.

Codesign Radar: Reads the plates of passing vehicles automatically

BOLOs

tRadar: Built-in shared BOLO list managed in game, persisted, with server exports for an MDT to add and remove plates

Codesign Radar: Create, edit, search and delete BOLOs and markers in the radar UI. Shared between all radar users and kept across restarts. Other resources can add and remove them.

BOLO alerts

tRadar: Plate reader shows a flag when your CAD or the BOLO list marks a plate

Codesign Radar: Auto-locks and pings when a vehicle with a BOLO or marker passes

CAD and dispatch

tRadar: An event and export let any CAD flag plates

Codesign Radar: Preconfigured with Codesign's own dispatch, which can add BOLOs automatically

Logging

tRadar: Optional Discord webhook when a BOLO plate is added, removed or seen

Codesign Radar: Discord webhook when a BOLO or marker is added or removed, plus a recent ALPR log in the UI

Who can use it

tRadar: Everyone, ACE permission, job and grade (6 frameworks), inventory item (9 inventories), or a custom check. Any vehicle by default; Config.vehicleClasses can restrict it to emergency vehicles.

Codesign Radar: Job, identifiers, ACE permissions and Discord roles, usable together. Shown only in emergency-class vehicles.

Faceplates and themes

tRadar: 5 faceplates across radar, plate reader and remote. HTML/PNG layouts, more from the marketplace.

Codesign Radar: Player-selectable themes

Configuration

tRadar: 50 documented server options in config.lua. Dash position set in game.

Codesign Radar: config.lua, with framework auto-detection

Radar detectors

tRadar: Publishes its band, frequency, range and mode for detectors. tDetector reads it.

Codesign Radar: Not listed

Dependencies and storage

tRadar: tLib (free). No database.

Codesign Radar: Framework optional. BOLO data stored in JSON files.

When Codesign Radar may fit better

  • You want plate reading and a BOLO database to be the main tool, with speed as a secondary check.
  • You want BOLOs created, searched and removed from the radar itself.
  • You already run Codesign's dispatch and want BOLOs added automatically.
  • You want access controlled by Discord roles or identifiers out of the box.
  • You'd rather run a stable release than a beta.

Common questions

Why does tRadar sometimes read the wrong speed?
On purpose. In moving mode, a large vehicle ahead can drag the patrol reading, the way it does on a real unit, and the patrol window shows it happening. It ships on because learning to catch it is part of using the radar. Set Config.patrolShadowPull = 0 to turn it off.
Does tRadar have a BOLO list?
Yes. Officers manage a shared BOLO list in the BOLO tab of /tradar. It persists, it's gated by the same access check as the radar, and an MDT can push to it with addBoloPlate, removeBoloPlate and getBoloPlates.
Is the plate reader required?
No. It's optional and off by default. Turn it on with Config.plateReaderEnabled = true.
Do I need a framework?
No. tRadar runs standalone with no database. A framework or inventory is only used if you choose to limit access by job or item.
tRadar is in beta. What does that mean?
It's in use and it works, but the feature set is still changing between releases. Updates are included for as long as the product is offered.
